Success With The South Beach Diet

images20

Many people who are serious about losing weight are finding success with the very popular South Beach Diet. This diet was created by a cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston, who wanted his heart patients to be able to lose weight safely.

The South Beach diet is not about no carbs or no fats – it’s about eating the right carbs and the right fats. Dieters are educated to eat the right kinds of carbs, which have a low GI (glycemic index) and therefore digest easier and don’t allow the insulin level to spike – causing cravings for more carbs. The right fats are emphasised, such as olive oil, and omega 3 oils from fish.

The South Beach diet has 3 “phases” – Phase 1 is the beginning phase in which carbohydrates are restricted for the first 2 weeks, but are added slowly back into the diet after that. Among Phase 1 foods are lean meats, low fat cheeses, nuts, low GI vegetables, lite tofu, and sugarless candy.

In Phase 2, fruits, starches, dairy, vegetables not allowed in Phase 1, some chocolate, ice cream and even red wine are added to the list of acceptable foods.

Phase 3 is meant to maintain your desired weight for life – continuing to eat low glycemic index foods, the right kinds of fats, carbs, and food portions.

South Beach dieters say that there is no hunger on this diet – they eat three meals a day, two snacks, and dessert after dinner, if preferred – in fact, they say that if you’re not snacking on this diet, you’re not doing it correctly.

Basically the South Beach diet is a lifestyle change, and a healthy one at that. While you lose weight on the South Beach diet, you are also reducing your risk of future heart problems, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis and diabetes.

Consider The Abc Islands In The Caribbean When Buying Your Next Vacation Home

images14

ABC islands is the name for three beautiful Caribbean islands with crystal clear waters and golden sands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. Tourists who visited these islands consider them to be a true breath of fresh air, a welcomed change from the English, French or Hispanic influenced islands in the Caribbean.

The local language is Papiamento which is a mixture of primarily Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish, English and French. While Papiamentu is the language of the locals, most of them can also understand and speak English and Spanish. The locals use Dutch names, and the local currency is the Florin, but dollars are very well accepted too. These three islands Dutch influence is given by the fact that they are still part of the Dutch Kingdom.

The simple idea of having a vacation home in the Caribbean is seen as a dream. The truth, however is that not all Caribbean properties are worth millions of dollars. If that were true, it would mean that everyone living in the Caribbean would be a millionaire. The truth is that the offers of Caribbean real estate companies hold Caribbean properties from $50,000 to 1M+. So the cost for a Caribbean real estate property with two bedrooms is available anywhere between $100K and $200K.

On the ABC islands, Curacao real estate, Bonaire real estate and Aruba real estate is an entirely different world from what we are used to when it comes to Caribbean real estate, and other dream destinations. The much loved bungalows and villas are available for buy or rent. And, for a perfect summer escapade, you dont need anything more than a bungalow. I guess it all depends, but Curacao properties, Bonaire properties and Aruba properties are available for people from all walks of life. You dont have to be a millionaire to own Caribbean properties on these islands. The prices vary like in every country and every city, so Caribbean real estate offers homes and properties for people with lower financial power and millionaires alike.

Aruba, for example, is considered by some to be dry and flat, but it is far away from any hurricanes, so your holidays are sure to be a success. Aruba has seen quite an increase in tourism and Aruba property purchases, so prices are probably going to increase once this crisis is over. Aruba is generally more popular with people from Europe and North America. Like on Curacao and Bonaire, Aruba property is surrounded by Dutch influences, so these islands hold quite an advantage over other islands in the Caribbean for those that want to escape the normal Anglo-American influence.

Bonaire real estate and Curacao real estate are equally as attractive and popular since many airlines are adding these Caribbean islands to their flight destinations. The bottom line is, if you are thinking of purchasing a Caribbean real estate property at a slightly lower price than average, then the ABC islands might just be perfect for you.

Galapagos Islands Snorkeling Activity

images20

The Galapagos Islands are without question a top destination for divers since it is the second largest marine reserve worldwide.

The word “scuba dive” may sound scary; however, the marine landscape can be enjoyed in a different way: snorkeling.

Marine life in Galapagos

While snorkeling, the tourist is sure to see stingrays, sea turtles and an enormous variety of fish. For instance, stingrays are found close to sandy areas near the shore and sea turtles remain close to seaweed beds.

Reef fish including parrot fish, surgeonfish or colorful wrasses are also frequently seen in Galapagos.

In some cases, hammerhead sharks, penguins, an octopus, booby or sea lions can be encountered. Snorkelers in deeper waters may spot reef sharks, which is the most common specie in Galapagos.

Types of Snorkeling

Snorkeling may be a simple or a challenging experience. For beginners, off-the shore snorkeling is the easiest to perform because you can easily go back to the shore, the currents are not strong and the water is still warm.

Wall swims are used by intermediate snorkelers. These walls protect the snorkeler from currents and winds. And, you can get to see a wide variety of marine species. Some islands, such as Isabela and Genovesa, are excellent for snorkeling.

Deep-water rocks are isolated in the middle of the ocean and are perfect for fine swimmers. The more famous are Devils Crown, Turtle Rock and Kicker Rock. These submerged volcanoes are only reachable via Galapagos cruises or authorized boats.

These snorkelers get to see the greatest underwater species such as sharks, rays, eels, large fish and much more, but you have to be careful since the area has strong currents and the water is much cooler than the one close to the shore.

Gear

Galapagos Cruises rent snorkeling gear. This includes fins, mask, snorkel and wetsuits.

Sizes and quality vary depending on the Galapagos cruise you choose.

Masks must keep the water out and protect your nose

Fins are normally available from sizes 12 or 13. In case you have larger feet, it is best to bring your own.

Snorkel: make sure they allow you to breathe and keep water out.

Wetsuit in luxurious Galapagos cruises are of superior quality and well-maintained.

For those tourists who prefer to bring their own equipment, it is suggested to give it a try to avoid last-minute inconveniences.

It is also a good idea to be informed about the exact gear provided by the Galapagos cruise you choose.

Consult your travel guide before going snorkeling. Do not get into deep waters if you are not a very good swimmer. For photographers, underwater cameras are a must!

Enjoy the unbelievable marine life of Galapagos in one of the best ways possible: snorkeling.

Explore Paratys Tropical Islands

images12

Paraty is in one of the most beautiful areas of Brazil and famed for its lovely coastline dotted with sixty-five islands. There are over 300 beaches accessible by boat from Paraty and boat tours directed by locals can take you to the best ones for your purposes. Whether you want calm water for swimming, a variety of sea life for snorkeling, or the finest sand for sunbathing, the islands can deliver. There are also special areas for scuba divers who want to explore Paratys islands from a different depth.

The closest, and therefore most visited, islands are close to Paratys shores and located in the bay. These are some of the most beautiful islands with fine white-sand beaches situated close to reefs for viewing a variety of sea life during snorkeling, but you will usually have to share the views with quite a few other people. For those seeking a more solitary excursion, there are also tours to some of the farther islands that are perfect for a romantic day with a loved one or a secluded family picnic.

There are a few different ways to get to these beautiful islands, but by far the nicest way is by sail boat. Chartering a sail boat is more expensive than some of the other tour options, but the peace and tranquility you experience while sunning on your deck as you slice through calm turquoise water to pristine islands is unparalleled. If chartering a private sail boat is out of your budget, there are larger boats that take many travelers at once to some of the islands and are very inexpensive. Or, travelers can rent a private boat with an outboard motor for a more intimate experience. These little fishing boats are usually operated by locals who can whisk you to many of the more secluded beaches. Fishing boats are the best option for small groups wanting to see many of the islands as they are faster than the other boats which means more time for snorkeling and sunning.

Waht About The Canary Islands

images13

Located off the northwestern coast of Africa, the Canary Islands are one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet, especially with Europeans.

The seven main islands that make up the Canary Islands are well spaced out so that it is only a day’s sail between most of them. The Islands are part of Spain but they’re located much closer to Africa than the Spanish mainland.

Known to the ancient Greeks as The Fortunate Islands, the Canary Islands are indeed blessed with exuberantly green landscapes and a perfect temperate all year-round.

All the Canary Islands are like small isolated continents. These islands are best known for twelve months of glorious sunshine, making them an ideal destination for holidays throughout the year. Since the Canary Islands are a major European tourist destination, all the major islands have well-developed communication systems, airports, and ports.

Travelers should note that, although part of Spain, the Canary Islands are outside the EU trading zone.

Most people in the US have no idea where the Canary Islands are, and are afraid to show their ignorance by asking. They are part of Spain but they’re located much closer to the African cost than the cost of Spain.

Featuring approximately 26 species, the Canary Islands are one of the world’s best and most popular regions to watch whales and dolphins. Accepted history is, that the Canary Islands are named after the dogs, while the birds are named after the Canary Islands.

In recent years Gran Canaria has also emerged as an up and coming destination for a Canary Islands golf holiday.

Thinking of a holiday in Canary Islands? There are plenty of self-catering villas and apartments available for holiday and vacation rentals on the islands, all year round at very competitive prices.

Rare Birds Of The Galapagos Islands

images16

Warm waters meet cold waters, and penguins swim with flamingoes. It sounds like a dream, and it is. It is the Galapagos Islands. Here, where the volcanic land rose from the sea and at the confluence of the cold Humboldt stream and the warm El Nino currents, you will find a breathtaking array of birds, many of which exist no place else on earth. The Galapagos Islands have long been a bird watchers paradise, and in fact, Charles Darwin was fascinated by the endemic species and the adaptations they made to live on the unpredictable and often harsh climate of the Islands. You cannot help but be fascinated by these great birds, too.

Where should bird lovers go to see rare and exotic species? One could do quite well simply looking out the window of a Santa Cruz hotel (one of the few places visitors can lodge on the Islands), but by all means, go out and have an adventure. Genovesa Island, also called the bird island, is home to frigate birds, nocturnal swallow-tailed gulls, red-footed boobies, noddy terns, lava gulls, doves, Darwin finches, and a host of tropic birds the likes of which most people never see outside of an aviary.

Other species that you can spot around the Islands include the waved albatross, blue-footed booby, flightless cormorant (whose adaptation to the Islands included becoming powerful swimmers at the expense of their ability to fly), brown pelican, penguin, flamingo, great variety of finches and petrels, herons, egrets, ospreys, hawks, cuckoos, owls, warblers, and more. If youve been keeping a list of exotic birds to see in your lifetime, get ready to cross some of them off.

The birds of the Galapagos provide a rare treat for nature lovers, but many of the species are near-threatened, endangered, or severely endangered. Being aware of this and being cautious not to step off marked trails, stress or scare the wildlife, including the birds, refraining from feeding the birds, and respecting that this wonderfully exotic world is their home helps ensure that we have the luxury of seeing rarities of nature. The least we can do is to return the favor of their hospitality by being gracious guests.

There is no other place on earth like the Galapagos Islands; this is not a mere vacation destination. This is a destination for fulfilling your need to discover and to experience nature much more closely and intimately than you would have thought possible.
